What is a root canal?

Root canal treatment, most often called a root canal, is a common endodontic treatment performed at our dental office. Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that treats infections and damage to the inside of your tooth where your dental pulp and tooth nerves are located. When this area becomes injured, serious damage to the tooth and smile can result. Our accomplished dentist, Dr. Kirk E. Kooker, provides root canal treatment to save your smile and keep it pain-free.

How is a root canal performed?

Non-surgical root canal treatment is the most common type of root canal treatment we offer. After your tooth is numbed with local anesthesia, we will go inside of your tooth and remove all infected dental pulp and tooth decay. The root canal system inside of your tooth is also cleaned. We place a rubber-like material known as gutta-percha inside of your tooth to restore the strength and integrity of your original tooth structure, and then seal the tooth with a dental filling or dental crown. Generally, a root canal in Plano, Texas only takes one to two visits to our dental office. To schedule your visit to our office, call our knowledgeable dental team today. We would be delighted to assist you in any way we can.
