What are dental crowns?
When your smile has been seriously damaged, whether through decay or trauma, we may suggest a dental crown, a long-lasting type of dental restoration. Dental crowns are caps or covers that are fitted over your natural teeth for protection and strength. At Dr. Kirk E. Kooker’s dental office, we are known for providing dental crowns that are undetectable. Dental crowns can repair many major dental problems and last for up to 30 years when taken care of properly.
What are dental crowns used for?
We may suggest a dental crown in Plano, Texas to:
- Complete dental implants to replace missing teeth
- Support weak or broken teeth
- Enhance the beauty of your smile
- Improve your ability to chew properly
- Restore lost facial volume and shape
How are dental crowns made?
Dental crowns are made from molds and impressions of your teeth. The tooth to receive the crown is first prepared through a light reshaping process to accommodate the thickness of the dental crown. Impressions are then taken and sent to a dental laboratory, which will create your custom dental crown. When the final crown is back at our office, our experienced dentist will temporarily place it to ensure it fits properly and then cement it permanently in place. While you are waiting for your final crown to come back, we will fit your smile with a temporary crown.
We want others to look at your smile and never know you had a damaged tooth. Dental crowns help us in this effort, and we are excited to share their benefits with you. For more information, we welcome you to contact our friendly dental team today.
